In a low-scoring contest between the Baltimore Lords and the New York Empires, 26-year old left-handed pitcher Don Achber proved to be the difference. The Baltimore left-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Lords win. Baltimore reliever Denny Boyd snagged the win, upping his record to 8-11. Tom Duncan shouldered the loss. The win has Baltimore at 43-68.

Pete Veirs drew 1 walk for Baltimore. The 33-year old left-handed pitcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Tom Duncan. It was his 7th walk of the season.

"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Achber. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
