The New York Knickerbockers locked up a win at Roman Arena, knocking off the Cincinnati Packers, 4-2. On the mound for New York was right-hander Dave Torre. He played a major role in the triumph. Torre, the winner, moves to 10-8. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. Ollie Hundley got the save, his 13th in 18 chances.

With New York leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Torre hit a 2-run single off Cincinnati hurler Dave Pelton. It was the 8th hit of the season for Torre and put his team ahead, 3-0.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Torre, "and then get after it again."

With the win over Cincinnati, the Knickerbockers improved to 57-51.
