The Kansas City Bulls picked up a win at Independence Field, dropping the Los Angeles Blockbusters, 5-3. Bret Weingartz, who won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1973, was the difference-maker. With the victory, the Bulls upped their record to 58-52.

The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Emilio Cortez came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Los Angeles pitcher Ralph Weintraub, he hit a 1-2 slider for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Kansas City on top, 5-3.

"Bret is still learning," said Bulls manager DD Martin. "The sky's the limit for him."
