Knickerbockers Win Nail-Biter
|
The New York Knickerbockers did just enough to nip the Pittsburgh Industrials, 5-4, in 11 innings. New York pitcher Dave Torre, in particular, had a standout performance. New York reliever Sid Shafer picked up the win, upping his record to 5-0. Roger Long took the loss. With the win, the Knickerbockers have a record of 60-52.
The Knickerbockers got a clutch hit from second baseman Steve Wright. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Knickerbockers.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Torre.
