Chicago Wins 2-1 Nail-Biter
|
Hyde Park Stadium featured a tense pitchers' duel.
The Chicago Hawks racked up a win at Hyde Park Stadium, bumping off the Toronto Hurons, 2-1, in 12 innings. Ken Eldridge, who started for Chicago, pitched effectively for his team. The win went to Alfredo Alvarado in relief, making him now 4-1. Joe Scott took the loss for Toronto.
The decisive blow was delivered by Bobby Richter in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a run-scoring double off 38-year old right-handed pitcher Joe Scott to win the game for Chicago. The home crowd went nuts.
Richter told the media after that game that the mood in the clubhouse is "extremely positive" after a win like that.
Chicago has 3 straight wins, Toronto 7 straight losses.
