The Baltimore Lords knocked off the Chicago Hawks, 5-2, in American Baseball League action at Hyde Park Stadium. Baltimore pitcher and Williamsburg, Florida, native John Fredrick had an outstanding performance. Fredrick yielded 2 runs over 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 9-6. Denny Boyd recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 20 for 30.
Tom Payton, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1970 draft, helped out the Baltimore cause in the top of the fifth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the left fielder drew 1 walk in 5 trips to the plate.
"Winning is contagious," said Fredrick. "We're looking forward to the next game."
With the win, Baltimore upped its record to 59-52.
