Detroit got a terrific performance from pitcher Jim Bryant, but it wasn't enough to beat the Montreal Habitants. Montreal won the Wolverine Field contest, 5-4. Bryant threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Bob Schar was the winner. He's now 10-8. The loser was 1966 Rookie of the Year Award winner Jim Bryant. Al Johns got the save, his 16th in 19 chances.

Montreal catcher Marvin Walker contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the ninth. With two down, he hit a sinker to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 61st hit of the season and put the Habitants ahead, 5-2.

"We ground out the win," said Walker. "That's all that matters."

With this game in the books, Montreal is 53-59, Detroit 55-54.
