Hurons Upend Empires, 7-1
|
The Toronto Hurons defeated the New York Empires, 7-1. Doing his part was right fielder Mike Walker, who went 2 for 4 with a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Larry Haines, now 2-6, was credited with the win in 4 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 3 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. The win puts Toronto at 41-71.
The Hurons got a gift in the top of the sixth inning, when they were leading 2-1. With two out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Pete Hambrick reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run. It made the score 3-1, Toronto.
"We had a nice day," said Toronto skipper Jim Burns.
