The Detroit Wolverines finished off the New York Empires, 6-3. Much of the credit belonged to third baseman Duane Simmons. Simmons went 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Wolverines. Picking up the save was John Bailey, his 13th. The winning streak has now reached 7 games for the Wolverines.

John Zimmerman drew 2 walks in 4 trips to the plate for Detroit. The 31-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Jon Pierce. It was his 33rd walk of the season.

After the game, Simmons refused to speak to a reporter for the Detroit Daily News. "You've accused me of throwing teammates under the bus," he said. "So, excuse me if I decline to answer your questions."
