Detroit picked up a win at Wolverine Field, bumping off the New York Empires, 5-3. Pitcher Juan Rodriguez was a major reason the Wolverines emerged victorious. John Bailey, who is tied for 2nd in the ABL in holds with 6, nailed down the save. The first-place Wolverines, at 67-46, now lead their division by 2½ games.

Third Baseman Duane Simmons made an impact for Detroit, when he swatted a run-scoring triple off Larry Stanford in the bottom of the third. For the contest, Simmons was 2 for 2 with a triple.

"We did a lot of things right," said Simmons.
