Blockbusters Fall Short, 9-8, at St. Louis
Conditions were not ideal but St. Louis and Los Angeles were able to put their game in the books.

The St. Louis Explorers beat the Los Angeles Blockbusters by a score of 9-8. St. Louis third baseman Fernando Martinez deserved the lion's share of the credit. Martinez was 3-5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Explorers. The Explorers, at 48-67, sit in last place in the National Baseball League Western Division.

With the game tied, 6-6, in the bottom of the seventh, Martinez had a key at-bat for St. Louis. With the bases loaded, Martinez hit a 2-run single off Jerry Wilson, making the score 8-6, Explorers.

"We take it day by day here," said Martinez, "and today was a good one for us."
