Denver beat St. Louis on the strength of starting pitcher Mel Hartman's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-3. Hartman got the win, improving to 2-1. He gave up 5 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. The National Baseball League Western Division-leading Burros have a record of 75-41.
Denver used a well-timed hit by Guillaume Moret to capture the win. The first baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Burros ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"I love playing this game, so you'll never see me not want to go out there and pitch," said Hartman.
