The Atlanta Generals topped the New York Empires, 5-3, in American Baseball League action at Queens Field. The standout performance belonged to Atlanta pitcher and Kansas City, Kansas, native Dave Kretz. Atlanta occupies third place in the American Baseball League Eastern Division at 67-49.

Atlanta used a well-timed hit by Ron Rodgers to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Generals ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"We did enough to win," said Rodgers.
