Quakers Score Late, Upend Bluebirds, 3-1

The Philadelphia Quakers downed the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 3-1, at Flatbush Park. Stellar pitching by Darrell Klug had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 10th in the NBL in complete games with 10, handcuffed his opponent all game. Bill Smith, now 5-3, was credited with the win in 0.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. Gary Arnold was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 1 save opportunities.
Philadelphia used a timely hit from Galen Brandon to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Quakers ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"We put together a nice win," Klug said.
The National Baseball League Eastern Division-leading Quakers are 68-47.
