Empires Win, 7-5, Versus Toronto
|
New York third baseman Rick Lintner had 4 ribbies while helping his team defeat the Toronto Hurons, 7-5. Tom Duncan, now 4-6, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. Dave Kretz notched his 4th save of the season.
Lintner had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 1-1 cutter from Larry Haddock, he banged a grand slam home run to right-center, giving the Empires a 7-5 lead. It was the 25th home run of the year for Lintner.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said New York manager Dan Whiting.
The first-place Empires have won 4 in a row.
