Drillers Send San Francisco Home with 6-2 Loss
|
Houston Drillers starter Dick Knight was on his game, helping his team beat the San Francisco Seagulls, 6-2. Knight, now 9-5, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Houston is now 64-54, while San Francisco is 73-44.
Jim Johnson had a big 3-run home run for the Drillers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Houston leading 3-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a curveball from Jerry Patrick, the 24th overall pick in the 1968 draft, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Drillers on top, 6-1.
Said losing manager Al Borie: "Obviously, we wished for a better outcome."
