The Denver Burros had to overcome a big game from Philadelphia shortstop Vern Friend to leave Quakers Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning, 13-7. Friend went 2-4 with a double and a walk. Denver used a timely hit from Armando Landa to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Burros ahead, 8-7. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

"We got the victory," said Landa. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
