Bluebirds Sunk by Knickerbockers
|
The Brooklyn Bluebirds and New York Knickerbockers riveted fans at Knickerbocker Stadium.
New York used a superb performance from starting pitcher Danny Abril to down the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 3-1. Abril, now 1-1, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 1 run.
The Knickerbockers had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 3-1, New York, with one out. Brooklyn, with a runner on 2nd, was mounting a threat. Dave Fogarty dug in at the plate, but on a first pitch changeup, he flied out.
The Bluebirds fall to 4-8 and continue their lackluster start in 1972.
