Cincinnati Downed, 5-3, by Industrials
|
Ron Winder, who is tied for 9th in the NBL in innings pitched with 177.2, was locked in. The right-hander led the Pittsburgh Industrials to a 5-3 win against the Cincinnati Packers at Roman Arena. The winner in relief was Bob Cole. He is now 6-7. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The Industrials lead the National Baseball League Eastern Division by 6½ games.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Garry Schon came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Jimmy Bell, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Pittsburgh on top, 5-3.
"We were the better team," crowed Schon.
