Denver and Cleveland got after it at Lakefront Stadium.

Cleveland had no answer for 1961 Rookie of the Year Award winner Dick Scorza. The Denver Burros starter stymied Bobcats hitters, helping the Burros cruise to victory, 9-0. In 8 innings, Scorza surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. He allowed no runs.

The Burros got a big hit from catcher Gordy Gregory. Facing Cleveland pitcher Floyd Tucker in the top of the eighth, Gregory pounded a 3-run home run to left. His 2nd home run of the season put the Burros ahead, 8-0.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Scorza told the Denver Today. "It's as simple as that."

With the win, the Burros have a record of 67-50.
