Bobcats Drop Bluebirds, 5-0
|
The Cleveland Bobcats picked up a win at Flatbush Park, knocking off the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 5-0, in 10 innings. Starting pitcher Rick Tomlinson played a key role in the triumph. The win belonged to Bill Smith in relief. His record improves to 6-3. Bill Keiser took the loss for Brooklyn. The victory gives Cleveland a record of 77-42.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Rick Gruber came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Bill Keiser, he hit a first pitch sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cleveland on top, 1-0.
Cleveland manager Daniel Mays praised his team's "businesslike approach."
