The Washington Eagles outlasted Vern Gould and the New York Knickerbockers, 8-6. Gould was impressive in the loss. The New York pitcher threw 6.2 innings allowing 2 runs. Ron Winder converted his 16th save in 21 tries. The defeat makes New York 59-61.
Washington used the timely hitting of Lee Perry to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Eagles on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll take this win and move on," said Perry.
