Boston wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Kim Glanden, falling to the New York Empires, 4-3. Glanden threw 7.1 innings allowing 2 runs for the losing team. With the win, New York pushed its record to 69-52.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when New York pinch hitter Charlie McKnight, facing Tim McGovern, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Empires the 4-3 win.

New York manager Dan Whiting praised his team's "businesslike approach."
