Wranglers Fall Short, 3-2, at Seattle
|
Steve Coomes pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Dallas Wranglers, despite Coomes's fine outing, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Seattle Emeralds at Puget Field. The winning pitcher was Nate Summers. His record is now 7-4. The right-hander went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits for the Emeralds. Dean Pepper sewed up the save, his 7th.
Eddie Rodriguez dealt the Wranglers a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with the bases loaded and Seattle leading 1-0, Rodriguez, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1963 draft, hit a 1-2 fastball for a 2-run single.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Dallas manager William Albrecht. "But we decided not to take it."
The Emeralds saw their win-loss record go to 50-71. At the same time, the Wranglers fell to 84-36.
