Manny Esparza, who led the ABL in ERA with 2.04 in 1969, never let the Emeralds get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his sinker, to pitch the Habitants to a win, 3-1. Esparza picked up the win for Montreal, going 5.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 9-6. Montreal goes to 68-51. The win puts them 4½ games up in their division.

Jim Compton helped out the Montreal cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the right fielder drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said Montreal manager Michel Alexandre Cauchon.
