Explorers Get One-Run Win at Milwaukee
|
Starting pitcher Bob Trout gave the St. Louis Explorers a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Milwaukee Dairymen, 2-1, at Milwaukee Municipal Stadium. Trout, now 11-12, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. The Explorers saw their win-loss record go to 58-62. At the same time, the Dairymen fell to 43-78.
St. Louis used the timely hitting of Gary Parker to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Explorers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Trout. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
