Quakers Outmuscle Cleveland, 10-8
|
The first-place Philadelphia Quakers picked up another win.
Cleveland center fielder Tom Crowell had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Crowell went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3, even as Philadelphia beat the Bobcats, 10-8. Darrell Klug got the win, improving to 14-3. He pitched 8.1 innings, giving up 10 hits and 8 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2.
Ted Schlener, the 11th overall pick in the 1968 draft, chipped in a 2-run single for Philadelphia in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder had 3 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 1 run scored, and 3 RBI.
"We're in a little bit of a dry spell," said Cleveland manager Daniel Mays.
The Philadelphia win streak is now 3 games.
