Wolverines Hand Los Angeles 5-3 Loss
|
The Detroit Wolverines weathered a fine game by Los Angeles second baseman Manuel Castillo to upend the Pobladores, 5-3, at Wolverine Field. Castillo was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Juan Rodriguez was the winner. He's now 2-1. The loser was former first round draft pick Bob Powell. John Bailey picked up the save for Detroit, his 5th of the year.
Eddie Taylor, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1962 draft, helped out the Detroit cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the second baseman went 2-3 with a double and 2 walks.
"We did a lot of things right," said Taylor.
The triumph makes Detroit 9-4, as the team begins another long trek toward the playoffs in 1973.
