Habitants Bank 9-3 Win
|
Though he had a stellar game, Paul Brower could not prevent his team, the New York Empires, from losing, 9-3, to the Montreal Habitants. Brower was 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was Oscar Rodela. His record now stands at 7-11. The right-hander went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits for the Habitants. New York is in the throes of a losing streak which has reached 9 games.
Jeff Murchison, who finished 5th in the NBL in slugging percentage with .515 in 1972, took New York hurler Jack Neenan deep in the bottom of the first. His 2-run home run put the Habitants on top, 2-1. In all, Murchison had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"We did more than enough to get the win," said Murchison.
