The Los Angeles Blockbusters downed the Denver Burros, 3-1, at Blockbuster Stadium. Stellar pitching by Larry Mitchell had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 2nd in the NBL in strikeouts with 181 last year, handcuffed his opponent all game. Earning his 9th save for Los Angeles was Cardell Franklin. The victory puts Los Angeles at 49-72.

Los Angeles took a 3-0 lead on Frank Bohley's 12th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Bohley hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Denver pitcher Frank Combs visibly frustrated.

"Larry -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Blockbusters manager John Trausch. "He was the key to us winning."
