Industrials Edge Past Bluebirds, 3-2
|
The Pittsburgh Industrials got a marvelous performance from pitcher Bob Briggs. The left-hander kept the Brooklyn offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 3-2 Pittsburgh victory at Flatbush Park. Briggs picked up the win for Pittsburgh, going 7 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 15-7. Ray Williams, credited with the save, is now 21 for 25 in save opportunities.
Pittsburgh used the timely hitting of Lew Ward to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Industrials on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Very good win for our guys," said Ward.
Pittsburgh leads the National Baseball League Eastern Division by 5½ games.
