The performance of Greg Russell proved critical in helping Chicago beat Los Angeles, 7-2. The Traders third baseman went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Vern Marcell earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 4-5. Gary Allen was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 3 save opportunities.

Early in the game, Russell had a solo home run for Chicago. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Traders on top, 1-0.

"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Chicago manager Larry Link.

With the win, the Traders hiked their record to 76-47.
