Eagles Top Bobcats, 5-3
|
Buddy Shingleton had a good game, but he could not keep the Cleveland Bobcats from falling, 5-3, to the Washington Eagles at Monument Field. The Cleveland shortstop slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice in the loss. Washington, at 55-69, sits in last place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
Jesus Olvera, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1966 draft, chipped in for Washington with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the catcher had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Olvera told the Washington News.
