Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the San Francisco Seagulls and Houston Drillers.

The Houston Drillers got a sterling performance from pitcher Dave Van Loon, but the San Francisco Seagulls still prevailed, 5-2. Van Loon threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Jeff Butler converted his 9th save in 17 tries.

Bobby Tapia dealt the Drillers a blow in the bottom of the third. Batting with the bases loaded and San Francisco leading 1-0, Tapia, who is tied for 7th in the ABL in doubles with 25, hit a 1-1 slider for a 2-run single.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said San Francisco manager Al Borie. "It's usually not just one thing."

With the win, the Seagulls hiked their record to 76-47.
