Explorers Better Bluebirds, 2-1

Corps of Discovery Stadium was the site of a tense game between the Brooklyn Bluebirds and St. Louis Explorers.
St. Louis Explorers starter Bob Trout hurled his team past the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 2-1. Trout, now 17-3, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Bernie Tate earned his 19th save in 22 chances.
Dave Bieler drove in one run for St. Louis. The slick-fielding second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Dave Gaultney. It was his 47th RBI of the season.
Said losing manager John Meeker: "We've got to find a way to push a run across."
St. Louis now has a record of 72-53 with the win.
