Seagulls Take Tight Tangle
|
Toronto got a valiant performance from pitcher Bob Trout, but it wasn't enough to beat the San Francisco Seagulls. San Francisco won the game, 2-1. Trout threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Paul Wiley earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 6-1. The American Baseball League Western Division-leading Seagulls have a record of 74-48.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when San Francisco pinch hitter Darrell Martin, facing Al West, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Seagulls the 2-1 win.
"The crowd went wild," Martin said.
