Pobladores Earn Late Win
The Montreal Habitants could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Manny Esparza into a win. Instead, the Los Angeles Pobladores prevailed, 5-4. Esparza threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The winner was Larry Seger in relief. His record improves to 6-1. Al Johns took the loss. The win for the Pobladores raised their record to 65-60.

The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Marty Berberet came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Montreal pitcher Al Johns, he hit a 1-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Los Angeles on top, 5-4.

"There's a lot of fight left in this team," said Berberet.
