Empires Stumble, Fall to Drillers, 7-5
|
Francisco Castro, who led the ABL in wins with 19 last year, was locked in. The right-hander led the Houston Drillers to a 7-5 win against the New York Empires at Sam Houston Field. Castro yielded 4 runs over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. His record improves to 6-8. Bill Switzer notched his 25th save in 31 chances.
The Drillers benefited from an error in the bottom of the first inning. Houston was leading 3-0 when Jim Johnson hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Houston in front, 5-0.
"It gets contagious with hits, a few walks, balls falling in," said Drillers manager Tom Harrington.
The Drillers, now 67-58, have won 7 in a row.
