The Los Angeles Pobladores got a superb performance from pitcher Dan Turner, but the Montreal Habitants still won the game, 5-4. Turner threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. The winner in relief was Eric Roe. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-1. Montreal goes to 71-54. The win puts them 3 games up in their division.
Billy Powers was 1 for 4 for Montreal. With one out and the game tied in the top of the tenth inning, Powers, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1971 draft, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Los Angeles hurler Larry Seger, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Habitants a 5-4 lead.
"Sweet win for us, tough loss for them," said Powers.
