Drillers Earn 5-3 Home Win
|
Lute Eccles left his imprint on the 5-3 Houston win against the New York Empires. Eccles, who is a four-time All-Star, went 3-4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Getting the save was Billy Duprey, his 2nd. Houston has won 8 straight, while New York has lost 3 in a row.
Jackie Frost dealt the Empires a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and Houston leading 4-3, Frost, who finished 2nd in the ABL in runs with 97 last year, hit a 3-1 curveball for a run-scoring single.
"I believe in our guys," said Houston skipper Tom Harrington. "I like the energy they're playing with."
