Houston 4-2 Losers to Empires
The New York Empires topped the Houston Drillers, 4-2, in American Baseball League action at Queens Field. The standout performance belonged to New York pitcher and St. Petersburg, Florida, native Larry Stanford. By defeating Houston, the first-place Empires improved to 69-55.

New York catcher Len Finnegan helped the Empires go up, 3-2, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Finnegan hit a run-scoring single off Houston pitcher Bill Switzer.

"I felt like I had pretty good command of mostly everything," said Stanford.
