Heath Tosses 1-0 Shutout Against Cleveland
|
The Cleveland Bobcats had no answer for San Diego Captains pitcher Ray Heath. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 1-0. Cleveland managed only 4 hits off Heath, who had 7 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Heath got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Captains fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
For this year, Heath has chalked up 14 wins and 6 losses in 26 starts with 134 strikeouts in 212.1 innings and a 2.46 ERA.
