Explorers Grind Out 2-1 Win
In a low-scoring contest, St. Louis pitcher Randy Birch was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 2-1 win. St. Louis is 61-66 and New York, with the loss, 62-65.

St. Louis shortstop Tom Guinn contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a knuckle curve to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 122nd hit of the season and put the Explorers ahead, 2-1.

"I just trusted my stuff," said Birch.
