Northmen Earn Clutch Win, 3-2
|
Twin Cities Stadium was the site of a tense game between the New York Empires and Twin Cities Northmen.
New York wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Larry Stanford, falling to the Twin Cities Northmen, 3-2. Stanford threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Ken Eldridge locked down his 3rd save.
Manny Pino drove in one run for Twin Cities. The 30-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With no one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Andy Humphrey. It was his 35th RBI of the season.
Pino called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
The Northmen are now 59-69.
