Seagulls Come Back Late, Nip Hurons
|
Arturo Lopez never let the Hurons get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his changeup, to pitch the Seagulls to a win, 2-1. Lopez yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 0, and struck out 2. His record improves to 7-9. Picking up the save was 29-year old right-handed pitcher Arnie Keilman.
Bobby Tapia went 2 for 4 with 2 singles for San Francisco. The 1974 Most Valuable Player Award winner had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Steve Persenaire. It was his 78th RBI of the season.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Toronto skipper Jim Burns.
The win gives San Francisco a season record of 72-55.
