Wranglers Victorious at Toronto, 7-1
|
The Dallas Wranglers got a stellar performance from pitcher Doug Leonard, who handcuffed the Toronto offense en route to a win, 7-1, at Dominion Field. Leonard, who finished 5th in the NBL in strikeouts with 180 in 1961, went the distance for Dallas. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. Dallas, at 81-47, is 4 games up in the American Baseball League Western Division.
Dallas third baseman John Hammit contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the third. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 116th hit of the season and put the Wranglers ahead, 2-1.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Leonard.
