Terriers Suffer 9-2 Home Defeat
|
Jim Johnson was instrumental in his team's 9-2 triumph over the Boston Terriers. The shortstop was 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 3 times for the Houston Drillers. Angel Colon, the winning pitcher, improved to 8-7. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 5. The 74-55 Drillers lead the American Baseball League Western Division by one game.
Houston used a clutch at-bat from Mike Wells to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Drillers ahead, 5-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"They just got us," said Boston manager Phil Palapa, "and that's all I can say."
