Captains Snatch 2-1 Win
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the San Diego Captains and Washington Eagles.
Washington wasted a solid 8-inning effort from starting pitcher Tom McAteer, losing to San Diego, 2-1, at Monument Field. Picking up the win was Mark Pike. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 4 and walked 6.
Earl Peters, who is tied for 4th in the NBL in home runs with 22, had a direct impact on the outcome. Peters contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put San Diego up, 2-0.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Peters said after the game.
San Diego improves to 78-50 with the win. They lead their division by 2½ games.
