Los Angeles parlayed a decent outing from starter Bob Powell into a solid win over the Seattle Emeralds. The final score was 9-3. Rick Furlong was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-2. The losing pitcher was Jeff Prestwich. Los Angeles is 67-63 and Seattle, with the loss, 56-74.

The Emeralds had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Pobladores going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old center fielder Joe Roberson came to the plate. Roberson hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 sinker from Seattle hurler Jeff Prestwich. It was Roberson's 23rd double of the year.

"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Powell. "It sure beats the alternative."
