Burros Drop Eagles, 2-1
|
The Denver Burros went home winners at Monument Field, thanks in large part to starter Bruce Cardenas. Cardenas stifled the Washington Eagles, enabling Denver to grab the 2-1 win. Cardenas, the winner, moves to 11-6. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 4 walks. Bob Langham earned his 21st save in 25 chances.
The Burros got a big at-bat from third baseman Dick Hoffmeier. For the game, Hoffmeier was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Denver a 2-1 lead.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Denver manager Clark Anderson.
The win elevated the Burros to 77-53.
