Knickerbockers Win, 10-5, Versus Cincinnati
|
The New York Knickerbockers downed the Cincinnati Packers, 10-5, at Knickerbocker Stadium. Francisco Chavez led the way, going 3-for-3 for New York. The winner was Ollie Hundley in relief. His record improves to 5-3. Alex Fonseca took the loss. New York is now 63-67, Cincinnati 62-69.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Rick Hotz came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Jerry Meek, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 6-5.
"Our approach was just to try to see something over the plate and be aggressive," Chavez told the New York Chronicle.
