Jose Mojica, who finished 4th in the NBL in ERA with 2.38 in 1974, never let the Captains get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Traders to a win, 2-0. Mojica, the winner, moves to 18-7. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 2 walks. Sammy Mason earned the save for Chicago, his 12th.

With Chicago leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Mojica hit a run-scoring single off San Diego hurler Jeff Ferguson. It was the 15th hit of the season for Mojica and put his team ahead, 2-0.

"Jose had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Chicago manager Larry Link.

Chicago is now 77-55, 3 games up in the National Baseball League Western Division.
