Empires Roll Past Hurons, 7-2
|
The Toronto Hurons could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Alfonso Sosa into a win. Instead, the New York Empires prevailed, 7-2. Sosa threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball. Jack Neenan picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 9 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 1. On the season, he is now 11-6. New York has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Lowell Bickle? The New York first baseman had a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Empires on top, 2-0. For the game, Bickle had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said New York skipper Dan Whiting.
