Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Cincinnati Packers take on the New York Knickerbockers.

The New York Knickerbockers knocked off the Cincinnati Packers, 7-2, at Roman Arena. Ted Schlener was a big reason New York won. The center fielder went 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 doubles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was Ron Haney. He tossed 98 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits.

The game turned with no one out in the top of the fourth. That's when Schlener hit a 2-run double off Art Ledington. It propelled the Knickerbockers into the lead, 2-0.

Schlener called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
